Resumen

Un indicador es una medida que proporciona una visión simplificada de un fenómeno más complejo, o que da información sobre tendencias que no se pueden observar directamente, con el fin de permitir cuantificar y simplificar la información y prepararla para ser utilizada.

Los indicadores son esenciales para evaluar y monitorizar las variables relacionadas a la sostenibilidad y la Gestión Integrada de la Zona Costera (GIZC) y para proporcionar un enfoque adaptativo de la gestión del litoral a través de la generación de datos científicos fiables. De este modo, se facilita la toma de decisiones y la gestión, tanto de los recursos costeros como de las actividades que se desarrollan en la franja litoral.


La definición de una lista adecuada de indicadores para la GIZC en Baleares requiere del compromiso entre las necesidades de los agentes políticos, socio-culturales y económicos que forman parte de la realidad de una determinada área litoral concreta por un lado, y las exigencias científicas identificadas para lograr un verdadero desarrollo sostenible de la franja litoral por el otro.
